Victorious Conversations Creates Workshops Where Women Can Write, Speak, and Reclaim Their Voice

Having something to say and feeling ready to say it can be two very different experiences. Sometimes the first step is a conversation; sometimes it is a page, a prompt, or a few quiet minutes to give a thought enough shape to be spoken.

Victorious Conversations creates workshops and facilitated spaces where women can approach that process through writing, storytelling, discussion, and reflection. Its programming centers subjects such as self-worth, communication, resilience, identity, faith, and personal growth, giving women concrete themes to examine rather than reducing empowerment to a slogan.

A Voice Can Enter the Room in Different Ways

Speaking up does not always begin with speaking aloud. Writing can create time to consider an experience, choose the words that fit it, and decide what belongs in a wider conversation.

Storytelling and writing sit alongside workshops, support groups, educational programs, speaking engagements, and community-centered conversations within the Victorious Conversations offer. A participant might encounter a writing exercise, facilitated discussion, reflection, or another activity suited to the subject of the program.

A previous five-week online course, Finding Healing in Writing, shows how that approach can work in practice. The course centered reflection, honesty, compassion, encouragement, confidentiality, and sharing only what felt safe to each participant.

That structure leaves room for engagement without making disclosure the measure of participation. In a writing-centered setting, listening, reflecting, putting words on paper, and contributing to conversation can each have a place.

Workshop Topics Give the Conversation Somewhere to Go

Women’s empowerment can cover almost anything unless a workshop gives it a subject. Victorious Conversations grounds its programming in areas that can connect with everyday decisions, relationships, identity, and the way someone talks about her own experiences.

Confirmed workshop and program territory includes:

  • Knowing your story and rewriting your narrative
  • Self-respect and healthy boundaries
  • Values, beliefs, and communication
  • Confidence and personal growth
  • Faith and resilience
  • Women’s empowerment and self-worth
  • Storytelling and writing
  • Identity, culture, and the Puerto Rican Diaspora experience

Those subjects create different reasons to enter the room. One woman may want to think more carefully about boundaries, while another may be interested in writing, cultural identity, communication, faith, or the story she has been telling herself about a difficult period of her life.

Specific topics also give participants something concrete to work with during a session. Instead of stopping at encouragement, a workshop can direct attention toward a question, experience, belief, or conversation that deserves closer examination.

Victorious Conversations Offers Several Program Formats

Workshops form one part of the wider Victorious Conversations offering. The organization also provides speaking engagements, support groups, educational programs, and community-centered conversations, with virtual and in-person programming across Puerto Rico and the United States.

Writing can serve as the central activity in one program and as one part of a wider conversation in another. Family and intergenerational conversations, women’s empowerment, faith and resilience, advocacy, emotional wellness, and Puerto Rican Diaspora identity also appear within the organization’s stated areas of focus.

That range gives groups and participants several possible entry points. Someone interested in personal writing may be drawn to a different format than an organization seeking a speaker or a community planning a facilitated conversation around culture, family, or empowerment.

The Book Opened the Door to Victorious Conversations

Before Victorious Conversations became a space for workshops, writing, and community dialogue, Carmen Cotto Santiago put her own story on the page. In her memoir, Victorious…My Conversations with God, she reflects on surviving childhood sexual abuse, the effects that trauma carried into her adult life, and the roles of faith, prayer, reflection, and finding her voice.

Writing the memoir meant returning to both joyful and painful parts of her life and giving them a beginning, sequence, middle, and end. Carmen describes the process as one that brought more than 20 years of conversations with God into a book while raising another question: what was she meant to do with the story once it had been written?

The answer gradually became connected to other women, conversation, faith, and purpose. Carmen came to see the memoir as a doorway into the work that became Victorious Conversations, where her personal experience could contribute to spaces in which other women examine their own stories, voices, and sense of purpose.

That origin gives the book a distinct place within the wider Victorious Conversations work. The memoir carries Carmen’s personal story, while the workshops and programs extend the themes of voice, reflection, faith, resilience, and conversation into settings where participants can engage with experiences of their own.

An English edition of Victorious…My Conversations with God is available through Levellers Press. Carmen has also published the Spanish edition, Victoriosa…Mis Conversaciones con Dios, through Amazon KDP, extending the story to Spanish-speaking readers.

Experience Behind the Facilitation

Founder Carmen Cotto Santiago brings more than 35 years of experience across education, social services, community engagement, and advocacy. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Services with a minor in Elementary Education from Springfield College and a Master of Science in Management and Organizational Leadership from Albertus Magnus College.

Her background also includes program development and work with multigenerational populations. Earlier in her work, Carmen founded INARU, or “Spirit of Woman,” to create educational programming for girls and women around areas including self-care, self-efficacy, and financial literacy.

Carmen is also a Puerto Rican author, speaker, educator, advocate, and survivor of childhood sexual abuse. Her experience informs the subjects that recur throughout Victorious Conversations, including silence, story, identity, faith, resilience, communication, and the ways personal experiences can continue shaping adult life.

Her personal story gives the organization a recognizable perspective, but the workshops are built for participants to engage with their own questions and experiences. Carmen’s role is to facilitate the conversation through the subjects, activities, and program formats Victorious Conversations provides.

Culture and Language Have a Place in the Conversation

Victorious Conversations offers programming in English, Spanish, and Spanglish. For someone whose family life, cultural identity, or everyday communication crosses languages, that creates room for expression that better resembles the way she actually speaks and relates to others.

Puerto Rican identity and the experience of La Diáspora also appear directly in Carmen’s work. Conversations about carrying family expectations, cultural stories, faith, resilience, and identity between Puerto Rico and the United States can therefore sit naturally beside the organization’s wider focus on voice and personal growth.

Virtual and in-person programming adds another practical choice. Participants and organizations can consider the subject, setting, and format that best suit the conversation they want to have.

Giving “Find Your Voice” Something Concrete to Mean

Reclaiming your voice can sound abstract until there is something specific to say, write, examine, or practice. A session about boundaries asks different questions from one about cultural identity, while a writing workshop creates a different form of participation from a speaking engagement or community conversation.

Victorious Conversations brings those possibilities under one offer built around dialogue, education, storytelling, and reflection. Carmen’s memoir adds the story that came before the programs, showing how writing her own experiences became part of a larger commitment to creating spaces where other women could engage with theirs.
